Sentences handed down in Memorial Healthcare bribery case

5/18/2012 - Four people who were convicted of defrauding the Memorial Healthcare System in a bribery scheme were sentenced to prison by U.S. District Judge Kenneth Marra on Friday. Thomas Kennedy, of Davie, was sentenced to 42 months in prison. Richard Cohen, of Wellington, and Paul Chaiet, a CPA, were each sentenced to 18 months in prison. Thomas Pacchioli was sentenced to three years of probation and 180 days of home confinement. All must pay restitution for the $15 million scheme, in which vendors paid kickbacks...

Google to host RNC party at Tampa Museum of Art

5/18/2012 - Google will host a party for the Republican National Convention at the Tampa Museum of Art on Aug. 30. The Internet company (Nasdaq: GOOG) is the convention’s official social platform and live stream provider. Google will rent the museum for the bash. TMA’s 66,000-square-foot facility is located in Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park. It features seven interior galleries, an exterior sculpture gallery and the Sono Café. The RNC is scheduled the week of Aug. 27.

5/18/2012 - The number of doctors who lost their license in Florida jumped 52 percent from 2010 to 2011, from 95 to 144, according to data released May 17 by the Federation of State Medical Boards. Nationwide, the number of doctors who lost their license to revocation, suspensions, surrender or mandatory retirement jumped 5 percent, from 1,815 in 2010 to 1,905 in 2011.
